Tree Plantation Drive and Guided Meditation Session at Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel

Saturday is a day when we yawn, get up late, potter around the house lazily, do things in a slow fashion and then feel bewildered when the day is gone before we even realize it and then wish we had spent it fruitfully.

Right?

No, not so, for the Students, Parents and Teachers of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, the leading International school in Navi Mumbai. 28th July, 2018, Saturday morning saw the school buzzing with activity, with practically all roads in Khanda Colony leading to Dr. Pillai Global Academy!

Parents and students flocked to the school to attend the Meditation Session organized in partnership with Hindustan Times and Heartfulness Organisation. This was followed by a Tree Plantation drive, with the Chief Guest Ms. Tejaswini Galande, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Panvel planting saplings in the school.

The Deputy Commissioner Ms. Tejaswini addressed the gathering of Parents and Students of the International school and enlightened them about the need for afforestation in order to save the environment. She spoke at length about planting trees being the need of the hour and elaborated the concrete measures taken by the Mahanagar Palika to plant trees in and around Panvel.

All present were greatly cheered to know that Panvel Municipal Corporation had succeeded in exceeding their set target by planting 20,000 trees this year alone, with the generous help of schools and NGOs. The Parents who had earlier in the week contributed saplings to further the ‘Green Mumbai’ initiative, responded with a thunderous round of applause.

Mr. Prashant Iyer, the Head of Operations and School Business Circulation of Hindustan Times, spoke at length about the “Each one – Teach one – To Plant one” movement initiated by Hindustan Times.

He shared his experiences as part of the HT Team for this movement and then spoke about the need to inculcate strength and awareness in young and old minds alike through meditation. Mr. Prashant related anecdotes of his experience in tremendous improvements seen in the productivity of his employees after they experienced the wonderful benefits of meditation.

Dr. Nivedita Shreyans, PR Head, Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institutions spoke about the way meditation had changed her personality and improved her productivity. She conducted a wonderful session on Meditation for everyone gathered in the school auditorium. At the end of the guided meditation session, parents were happy to give their feedback about the programme.

As one of the parents rightly put it, Dr. Pillai Global Academy planted trees in the gardens of their hearts and also inspired them to plant trees in their physical gardens at home!

The Principal of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, Ms. Shraddha Sardesai exhorted the parents to help their children develop resilience through meditation which would hold them in good stead when they faced the real world with all its attendant problems and turmoil. To highlight the need to re-create greenery, Ms. Shraddha quoted a Sanskrit shloka that we should be like trees that selflessly confer benefits to others, just as great people did.

The Director of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, Dr. Latha Venkataraman spoke about how people feel a sense of alienation from their own true selves, enmeshed as they are in today’s frantic quest for wealth, health and material prosperity. She said that meditation would help us find ourselves, unearth the ‘essence beyond the form’, to achieve ‘Sthira Pragyan’, loosely translated as ‘Consciousness with stability’ – people who are firmly grounded to eternal values.

Dr. Mousumee Mishra, the IBDP Coordinator of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel, compered the whole programme beautifully. The ‘Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Ichha Garg, Deputy IB Coordinator of Dr. Pillai Global Academy, who thanked everyone who helped make the programme a grand success.
