Youth Conference 2019 – Leadership Series With C.M. Shri. Devendra Fadnavis

Students from Dr. Pillai Global Academy, New Panvel participated in Youth Conference 2019 organized by IIMUN [India’s International Movement to United Nations] on 6th September, 2019 at NSCI Dome, Worli. On the occasion, the founder of IIMUN, Mr. Rishabh Shah took to stage to speak on the role that I.I.M.U.N. has played in the lives of youth in India. He expressed that the students should not identify themselves with any religion, area or community. He encouraged everyone to give their identity as an ‘Indian’ and urged them to spread it among others. The event was an exciting interactive session under the banner of Leadership series wherein the students got the opportunity to interact with the honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis. The students of DPGA prepared questions based on current national and international scenarios including felling of trees in Aarey Colony, Traffic Congestion, inadequate planning to handle excessrains as well as drought, need for restructuring agriculture sector, old building collapse, water harvesting, increasing Maharashtra Debt, planning to handle mental health, increasing incidents of epidemic diseases and many more. In a one-hour interactive session, Shri. Fadnavis answered questions raised by young students who had come together from different parts of the city. Lynette George from Dr. Pillai Global Academy voiced the burning concern on felling of trees in Aarey colony leading to environmental issues. The question was well appreciated by the crowd and the C.M. Shri. Fadnavis took the opportunity to make the government’s standing clear on the issue. He also answered other questions raised regarding Mumbai’s Infrastructure, education System, Economic slowdown etc. Students could get insight on many current issues and returned with an enriching experience.

Here are some of the reflections shared by our students:

“IIMUN has broadly played another significant role in one of the most powerful achievements that is also hard wiring for my lifetime. We had an enriching experience sharing views and putting our concerns before our Honorable CM.

A question about the Aarey Forest in Mumbai, being cut down for transportation lines was raised by us which was answered with a justification. With the presence of Mr. Rishabh Shah, Founder of IIMUN, the day was spent collaboratively working for our country.”

“On the 6th September I took part in the IIMUN Leadership Summit at the NSCI Dome in Worli. The highlight segment of the afternoon was going to be a question-answer session with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis and I waited with bated breath to see what sort of enquiries and questions would be raised. Being my first experience at such an event, I was uncertain of what to expect.

As we got there, the energy in the room was palpable as students, parents, teachers and volunteers from all over the city came to be a part of this wonderful opportunity. As the event commenced, we witnessed multiple musical performances and even an inspiring speech from the Founder and President of IIMUN, Rishabh Shah. As we neared the end of the event, we were graced with the presence of our Chief Minister who answered questions from students sitting in various corners of the auditorium. A moment that stood out for me, personally and one that I surely won’t forget easily, was when I was given a chance to pose my question to him. He appreciated the question and answered it at length, since it was based on an ongoing, debatable topic.

The experience was a highly rewarding and beneficial for all the students present there. We got to learn a lot from the speakers and ponder over some of the more eye-opening questions.”
