“Service is the rent we pay for our room on earth” – Muhammad Ali

NDTV along with DHFL and Pramerica Life Insurance organized the ‘Behtar India’ campaign in collaboration with schools all over India, which aimed towards creating ‘Behtar Swasthya’, ‘Behtar Swachhta’ and ‘Behtar Vatavaran’.

The ‘Behtar Swasthya’ initiative was visualized for raising funds to protect underprivileged children against Dengue. The focus of ‘Behtar Swachhta’ is to organize clean-up drives and spread the message of cleanliness. ‘Behtar Vatavaran’ initiates efforts to create a greener future by planting tree saplings.

Dr. Pillai Global Academy shouldered this campaign along with NDTV, as a part of which over Rs. 1 lakh was collected towards the purchase of Dengue prevention kits.

An area without a dust bin and where garbage is strewn all over was identified. It was cleaned by students and teachers with the help of civic workers. Meetings were organized with office bearers of building associations around that area. The sub staff also joined hands in spreading awareness among the locals about proper disposal of wastes. Dust bins were also provided by the school for this purpose. The project is to planned to be sustained with the continuous help of the local Municipal commissioner who would be supporting the school in executing more such cleanliness drives.

500 saplings were planted on plain lands by the staff and students.

Schools participating in these activities were ranked based on the amount collected and their contribution towards this venture by way of cleanliness initiatives and plantation drives.

Dr. Pillai Global Academy was ranked 4th in Maharashtra state and 14th in the country.

The clean up and plantation drives initiated by the school will be sustained by the combined effort of the staff and students of DPGA, with the support of civic authorities.
