“India is a dream, a vision, and a hope of the greatest nation in the world.”
— Jawaharlal Nehru

~ DPGA’s Republic Day; a celebration of our nation’s progress

The 77th anniversary of the Constitution of India came into force on the 26th of January, 2026. A significant day for all Indians, it is a day that honours the bravery and dedication of India’s martyrs and freedom fighters, as well as the leaders and changemakers who have made the country what it is today.

On the 26th of January, 2026, students, teachers and parents congregated at the ground, awaiting the commemoration of this joyous and patriotic day. The event began with an opening speech made by host Ananya Mayank, the Deputy Cultural Captain for the year 2025-26, sharing a few words about the country’s progress, culture, and unity — setting the tone for the day. Soon after, the violin ensemble played the National anthem after the school’s Principal, Mr Prakash Nair, unfurled the National flag. Following this, the State and School anthems were sung.

After that, the march-past commenced. The school’s very own drummers set the pace for this, as students moved forward with great poise. Led by the school’s Deputy Heads, Jeet Thakkar and Mugdha Vinod Patil, the march-past consisted of House representatives, including the Captains, Vice-Captains, and Flag Bearers, as well as other students. This was not merely a march, but a representation of the discipline of India’s youth. After this, Mr Prakash Nair delivered his address, sharing his words of wisdom with the gathering. Then, sweets were distributed — after all, it is an Indian custom to sweeten one’s mouth on days of jubilance.

Next, students began with their performances. First up was a speech-and-translation: one student delivered a speech on Republic Day in French, and another translated it. This performance was wholly emblematic of India’s cultural diversity, and fondness for multilingualism. Then, a poem was recited in English — a literary representation of such a great day.

Following that was a group song. Every note, every riff carried within it a sense of patriotism, and the students’ hard work in this song’s preparation was more than evident. Next, a student delivered a speech in Marathi. After all, India’s greatest achievement is its ability to nurture a multitude of cultures, and a speech in the State’s language was symbolic of just that. Lastly, a dance was performed, celebrating the spirit of India through a display of rhythm. These cultural performances were a testament to the power of art in imbibing within its performers and its audience a sense of national unity.

Another important program that took place that day was the mass drill — a House event where Houses were judged on their discipline and teamwork as they marched. Soon after, prizes for DPGA’s art competition, Master Stroke were awarded, celebrating the artistic excellence of both the students and parents who participated. The event concluded soon after, with a vote of thanks delivered by PA Head, Mr. Prasun Lomjail. After the audience dispersed, a Football match between the DPGA family began — an exciting and athletic addition to the day.

Simultaneously, IBDP-1 students were organizing something warm and delicious — meals for their food stalls. Their CAS project, “Global Fiesta” strived to merry both the creative aspects of cooking, with its financial aspects — all proceeds went to a charitable cause. Students prepared almost all items on-spot, balancing both the quality of the cuisine, with customer service. The essence of multiculturalism was laid bare across the school’s boulevard.

To conclude, this year’s Republic Day was another rousing success. From the students’ great demonstration of tenacity during the march-past and mass drill, to the passion of the performers’ in their showcases, everyone who contributed towards this fest did so brilliantly. The spirit of India is all about unity, hard work, and excellence — this is precisely what DPGA’s students embodied in their dedication towards making this day special. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!
